AFC Wimbledon–Npower Championship May 2014/2015

Welcome to my AFC Wimbledon blog and in this post we will see how May went in the Npower Championship for my side.

The chance of play-offs have gone so now we are playing for position. It is also in my mind that I still have an offer from Samsunspor and the decision will be made if to go or not.

This post will contain the following:

Fixtures

AFC Wimbledon (Fixtures_ Fixtures)-3

We have just the two games this month as the season draws to an end we play one at home and one away. The first match of the month comes at home to Brighton & Hove Albion which I think we may draw. The final game of the month is against Middlesbrough away, and they are low down the league so I think we could snatch a win.

Results

AFC Wimbledon v Brighton (Preview_ Match Analysis)Tim Hepworth (News_ Inbox)-8

The first match and what a win w got against Brighton & Hove Albion, we got one of the best wins this season and it has to be the best performance so far as well. The first goal came in the 8th minute as Grondin played in Sammon who finished off. Then in the 33rd minute it was made 2-0 as Klasnic played through Manucho who slotted away. I thought that would be it but no in the 67th minute Sammon played in Klasnic who tapped in. The final goal came in the 74th minute as Lansbury played Klasnic in to get his second. The final score was 4-0 and I am really happy we managed to get this win especially the way we did it as we finished off 4 of our 6 clear cut chances which is brilliant finishing for us.

Middlesbrough v AFC Wimbledon (Preview_ Match Analysis)Tim Hepworth (News_ Inbox)-9

A loss to end the season which I am not that happy at, we just didn’t do well after Ivan Klasnic managed to grab us our early goal. We did well in defence but when it came to the second half our performance level went down and in the 65th minute they equalised from a corner. It was 10 minutes later when they grabbed the winner to make it 2-1. It wasn’t good enough but overall the season has gone well.

Review of Results

AFC Wimbledon (Fixtures_ Fixtures)-4

We played two games in the month and we won one and lost one. I am slightly disappointed that we lost but I will be fine as it is the end of the season. Overall an average month.

League Table

npower Championship (Overview_ Stages)-2

The final league table and we finished in 9th position. I am very very happy with that as we were predicted to go down. Overall a brilliant season although slightly disappointed we didn’t get play-offs after our slump of form.

Player Ratings

AFC Wimbledon (Squad_ Players)-2

The ratings which I did not focus on that much and still will not but I can say they were not the best but also I can see that I don’t stick to players for a long time looking at the apps so that needs looking at otherwise some good last five games ratings.

I think this is the worst thing that could have happened to be honest. I was never expecting it but we have been granted permission to build a new stadium after we secured a loan of £29.47 million!! We must pay £201K per month which is a lot considering we struggle to bring in anything so this is pretty much the worst thing that could happen. It is a very good stadium with stadium capacity of around 17,432. It is a nice thing to see but finances are going to be awful which is why this makes me more off managing AFC Wimbledon right at this moment.

Despite that news though I decided to reject the offer from Samsunspor. I was not swayed by any comments because the final decision was with me and I felt there finances where just not good enough and it would be too tough to take charge of a team with a wage budget that has spiralled over £10K above the limit.

I have also updated the tables section for this season so it will show the main final tables including Wales and Scotland. If you want any more tables added comment bellow although I may not have the country loaded. Also the Story Achievements is also updated.

That is it for this post now, the end of a season goes a my future at AFC Wimbledon is still up in the air but I can say that players started to be signed for them before the end of the season. My next post will be an analysis on the season that has just past.

Thanks for reading.

Tim.

  1. You were just 6 points from the play-offs. I’m gutted for you. I think if you are starting to find your motivation again, that will make all the difference for next season.

    Keep it up!

considering you where one of the favourites for relegation you have done a great job, and am personally surprised that a premier league club doesn’t want you after the work you have done at wimbledon.

Hey… u had a good season… hope ull get to the play offs next season….nd that was a disastrous decision by the board to build a new stadium considering the finances…. hope u cope up…. Have superb 2015-16… All da best

  6. Thanks for the comment… I would agree that it was a good season. I hope we can get play-offs next season so it should be interesting to see. The finances are improving but the stadium loan makes it a loan debt of £38mill which is not good so we are going to start running out of money. Thanks :D

Well overally you had a very good season, and you narrowly missed the playoffs, mainly because of the not so good season finish. Anyway from what I understandthe first thing you should be looking for now is motivation, and if Wimbledon fails to supply this, then maybe you should look for another club who does

  8. Thanks for the comment… I would agree that it was a good season and missing out on the play-offs narrowly can be seen as a positive. I am beginning to find motivation again but once again time will tell what my decision will be :D
